Rock Ministries have been supported by our Sunday School in Dervock Presbyterian Church since 2007 as they minister to make a difference to the lives of underprivileged children in Uganda. At present we are sponsoring two children called Doreen and Sharif . The monthly sponsorship pays for the children’s schooling and extra treats like Christmas dinner.
Jesus said, ‘I assure you that when you helped one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ Matthew 25 v.40.
Doreen is a 10 year old girl. She walks ½ km to school each day. Her favourite things are drawing, colouring, singing and dancing. She frequently suffers from malaria. Both parents are ill so she lives with her grandmother who suffers from cancer and is unable to provide for her.

Sharif is a 7 years old boy. He walks 4km to school each day. His favourite things are drawing, colouring and football. He frequently suffers from malaria too. His father is dead and his mother can’t provide for him. He lives with his grandparents who are both HIV positive. They can’t work so the family are in poverty.
The Sunday school receives regular school reports on the children as well as recent photographs. We also receive cards made by Doreen and Sharif and letters from them. The Sunday school in return sends Christmas cards and before Easter we plan to have a craft day to make some gifts to send to Doreen and Sharif.
This is a very worthwhile project and helps our children have a real insight into how other children in the world live. It is important that our children are able to play a practical and positive role in these children’s lives by actively collecting 20p coins in their Smartie boxes. This helps our children to realise that not everyone is as fortunate as we are.
